❝ As Fire Lord, Zuko’s going to have to get
married eventually to give the Fire Nation an heir.“
That didn’t exactly answer the question,
however, and Mai paused to mull over
her thoughts.

❝ It’s… not exactly a secret that Zuko and I
have had trouble in the past, but I know that
idiot loves me and he knows how I feel about
him. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he
proposed to me.
—- As for how, I don’t know. The thing
about Zuko is it’s hard to guess exactly
what he’ll do when it comes to his emotions.
He’s probably going to enlist the help of
all our friends, though.”

[ ….. thanks for the fruit tart at least?
noms contently and shrugs tbh
peasants are so weird ]

❝ … Should it?”
It was a legitimate question, even despite her
tone of venomous sarcasm. Admittedly, she
did sometimes find herself dancing around the
issue, tip-toeing over it and turning it over in the
darkest crevasse of her mind.
Mai loved Zuko, she did, and she believed
that fact was already evident - she’d do
anything for him. The idea that she could
be the cause of the end to the firebending
line of his family did bother her, because
what heir could be a nonbender?
—- It was unheard of.
❝ Of course it should. Royals belong to the
Nation, and the Fire Lady’s duty to her people
is to birth an heir to represent them. What is a
Fire Lord without his bending? They’re great,
ferocious beacons in history that move and
guide others. They’re supposed to be the best
and the ideal.
I’m no fool. Azula has told me before that
Zuko had ben proclaimed ‘lucky to be born’
due tot he lack of a spark in his eyes signifying
he was a bender at birth. Lady Ursa is a nonbender,
after all, so they had been worried he was as well.
—- I’d be stupid not to worry.”

She heaved a heavy sigh, rolling the
message back up and half-heartedly
retying the string keeping it shut.
Well, the upside was she’d have more time
to ensure he got a proper ‘welcome home’.
Injury II [Starter Sentences]
Her tremors had started up first, and she folded her hands
inside her sleeve to hide them. She didn’t want anyone to
know that she was ill, and as so kept up whatever front that
she could. Eventually, however, those tremors turned into a
fatigue that washed over her entire body and made her knees
buckle. Mai had doubled backwards, clutching to the nearest
object or person she could to try and stay standing.
❝ Thank you, but I think I can manage to a chair.
I just need to sit for a moment. I’m waiting for
my husband anyway.“
The elderly Fire Lady flashed a
small, sincerely grateful smile.
❝ Aren’t you one of Toph’s
grandchildren? You look like her.”

Her small smile grows gently,
a chuckle passing through her lips.
❝ How about we go to the market before
you leave and buy you a bunch? It’ll be
my gift to you.“

❝ I don’t like strangers touching me.“
