Injury II [Starter Sentences]

It hurt, Spirits, did it hurt. Her jaw tensed ad her amber
eyes stung from tears she was so desperately holding
back. She didn’t want Aang to see her cry, even if she
gradually becoming more open with her emotions and
considered the airbender both a good friend and confidant.
Mai hated it when people saw her cry, because she felt
so vulnerable and useless.
She breathed heavily through her mouth, as if that
was supposed to offer some sort of numbing effect
to the pain. There had been an arrow protruding from
the middle of her shoulder blades, the tip sunk deeply
into her flesh and broken off from the shaft.
Removing the arrowhead had been painful, it
having had been necessary for the Avatar to
dig deep into the wound to retrieve it so that
she could heal properly. It was lucky he wouldn’t
have to use his firebending to cauterize the wound,
and even luckier that the blood seemed to quickly
be clotting as he began to clean it out.
❝ I should’ve just let you take the arrow.”
Her tone was bitter, yet still sarcastic. She
knew that he knew she wouldn’t have allowed
him to take that hit.
